Learn to play music!

All styles and skill levels welcome. I specialize in guitar & bass, but the actual language of music transcends instruments. Theory learning is 2nd to musical linguistics.

Show up, tune up and learn music.

My Mission

Can you find C on your instrument? Can you find the various octaves of C? Can you play the 3rd? These are ground rules before asking the question: “What do you like about music?” Then, as we progress through learning music and sound we can dive into theory and sight reading if necessary. Music is supposed to be fun, not a toil!

ABOUT ME

My name is Ben Reece. Learning music has always been my favorite activity.  10,000 hours? More like 20,000 hours.  I’ve been obsessed with music since I was just a wee lad.  Forced to play piano 7-12,  picked up guitar at 15, then realized that all instruments are the same thing.  C is C.  F# is F#. Studied music some in college, but other than that have been completely self taught through ear training, transcribing, and studying countless texts from libraries. I’ve been in many bands, lots of recordings and have toured the US & Europe extensively.

Genres don’t matter. I specialize in guitar and bass for technique, but for any instrument and any style if you at the very least know where to find all 12 notes. This is really easy to teach on piano. I want to teach you to teach yourself. Want to learn to read music? Great.

Step one is to find out what kind of music you like, then the theory instruction will come after that.  If theory is put before music, it is boring.  Let’s not make it boring. Show up and learn sound.
